ChomChom Sweet

‘’ChomChom’’, also known as Cham Cham or Chum Chum, is a distinctive Bengali dessert made from curd cheese and soaked in sugar syrup. This delicacy traces its origins to Porabari, a village in the Tangail district of Bangladesh. The name "Porabari" comes from the Bengali words "pora," meaning burnt, and "bari," meaning house. According to local legend, a sweet maker's house caught fire during the preparation of this treat, giving the sweet its unique identity.

It is also said that a man named Dasarat was the first to craft this confection. The Ghosh and Pal communities, known for their longstanding tradition in sweet-making, helped popularize the Porabari Chom Chom, which is now celebrated in both Bangladesh and West Bengal.

Chom Chom is oval-shaped and comes in various colors, including white, light pink, yellow, and brown. Often, it is garnished with coconut flakes or infused with the flavor of cardamom, adding to its charm.
